How to Establish a Transportation Company
Have you decided to establish a transportation company? Business in transport is a popular business area in both Slovakia and the European Union. Establishing a transportation company requires handling a number of steps to obtain a permit to operate a transportation company, certificates as well as tax registration. Under Act No. 56/2012, each company carrying out national freight transport and international freight transport over 3.5 tons has to be registered in the Commercial Register of the Slovak Republic under the title “freight road transport”, or “international hired or paid road transport of goods”. The scope of business activities is registered on the grounds of an issued licence of freight road transport operator and community licence (also called concession for transport), which is issued by respective Regional Office for Road Transport and Roads. In case the aforementioned scope of business activities is not registered in the Commercial Register of the Slovak Republic you are not entitled to carry out business activities in this sphere and thus not even issue invoices.

Transportation Company as a Limited Liability Company or as a Trade – Natural Person?
Sole Trader (Natural Person)
A sole trader who is planning to carry out business in freight road transport is registered in the Trade Register but also has to be registered in the Commercial Register, including their business activity of “freight road transport”, or “international hired or paid road transport of goods”. Sole traders shall be liable with all their assets and also have to fulfil equally demanding criteria as limited liability companies, including financial capacity, which is demonstrated in an easier way in case of limited liability companies.
